Arrival/Dismissal

Morning Drop-Off

Early morning supervision is for elementary students requiring early morning care. This care is intended to assist the working parent who must drop off their children prior to 7:50 a.m. because of their workday hours. This care is not intended for the parent who wishes to avoid the carpool line or for the child who wants to come to school early to visit with friends. In order to provide a safe adult to child ratio, please respect the intent of this service. Please note: adult supervision will not be available until 7:30 a.m. Please assist us in ensuring students are properly supervised by not dropping off your children before 7:30 a.m.

Elementary students arriving prior to 7:50 a.m. will go to the Upper Elementary Building. They may arrive any time after 7:30 a.m. Most mornings, students will be seated in the auditorium. On the mornings the auditorium is being used for other activities, students will be directed to another room within the Upper Elementary Building.

Drop-off Procedures

For the safety of all OCS students, please adhere to the policies set forth. Traffic patterns have been carefully considered and are based upon many factors, specifically the safety of our students. (Drop-Off Map)

Pre-K, Kindergarten, Fourth, and Fifth Grade

Pre-K, kindergarten, fourth, and fifth grade students are to be dropped off in front of the Upper Elementary Building or along the Lower Elementary Building. When dropping off at the Upper Elementary Building, please pull forward all the way. When dropping off at the Lower Elementary building, please use the designated drop-off point along the curb leading into the Upper Elementary Building and the bottom floor of the Lower Elementary Building. The entrance for this drop-off point is from 2ndstreet. To expedite the arrival process and prevent unnecessary tardies, several cars should unload at one time.

To expedite the arrival process and prevent unnecessary tardies, several cars should unload at one time—students can walk along the sidewalk until they reach the gated entrance between the buildings. Students should exit their cars on the side near the curb. Students should be ready to exit as their car approaches the curb or drop-off.  If young children are not able to exit their car by themselves, parents should park in the area near the prayer chapel and walk their child to the sidewalk.

First, Second, and Third Grade

First, second, and third grade students may enter from the I-35 frontage road (near the big cross). Follow the carpool map until students are near the Prayer Chapel. Please pull forward as far as possible in order to unload six or more cars at a time. Someone from our elementary staff will be on duty to assist with traffic flow and the safe arrival of students. Students should unload on the side of the vehicle nearest the curb.  Students should be ready to unload when their car reaches the drop-off point.

Students arriving at this drop off prior to 7:50 a.m. should go to the Upper Elementary Building. Staff will not be available to safely unload students until 7:50 a.m.

Families or Carpools with Children Who Need To Be Dropped Off At Different Points

Families or carpools with children who need to be dropped off at different points may choose which drop-off point is most convenient. Until the Pre-k and kindergarten students become familiar with our campus, most families will probably feel more comfortable utilizing the entrance from 2nd Street, as this is closer to the classrooms of the youngest students.

Arriving after 8:05 a.m.

All elementary students arriving after the 8:05 a.m. start should be dropped off in front of the Upper Elementary Building.  Students will enter the elementary office and obtain a tardy slip.  If a child is arriving after 8:10 a.m., parents should park and walk their child into the elementary school office to sign them in for the day. Doors automatically lock after start times to prevent entrance by unauthorized persons.

Afternoon Pick-up

Due to construction and safety concerns and large numbers of students outside: NO park and pick up will be available. Our main concern is the safety of your child. (Afternoon Pick-up Map)

Parents who arrive in our parking lot at 2:55 p.m. or even 3:00 p.m. – 3:05 p.m. will be able to retrieve their children in a timely manner and assist us all in diminishing traffic problems. Parents will also be able to avoid the frustration of waiting in line. Many drivers feel it is necessary to arrive at 2:15 p.m. or 2:30 p.m. to “get the best place in line,” but it works best to simply arrive at school between 2:55 – 3:05 p.m.

Pre-K and kindergarten single riders will be dismissed at 2:55 p.m. Drivers will enter the parking lot from 2nd street. Parents should follow green arrows and form a double-stacked line to the left of Row A. Please exit by following the green arrows to the traffic light past the high school. Refer to the map and your group’s color for more specifics. Pre-K and kindergarten students with multiple riders in a single carpool will be dismissed at 2:55 p.m. to join their oldest sibling. Remember grades 1-3 will be in the Red Line and grades 4-5 will be in the Blue Line.

First, Second and Third Grade

First, second and third grade students will use the prayer chapel pick-up. Drivers will enter from the I-35 frontage road entrance (near the big cross). Parents should follow the Red Line.

Fourth and Fifth Grade

Fourth and fifth graders, along with those who have younger siblings, will be picked up in front of the Upper Elementary Building. Fourth graders will be on the grass near the visitor’s parking. Fifth graders will wait under the portico. Drivers will enter from 2nd street and follow the Blue Line exiting the lights at the Saints Boulevard.

Students with Middle School Siblings

Middle school siblings will walk over to the Elementary pick-up area to join their siblings.  They will use either crosswalk from Middle School.

Children in More Than One Building

Due to security reasons and our best efforts to keep our little ones safe, we only allow high school siblings to pick up their younger siblings from their carpool line with prior notification to our office. To assist parents who only want to drive through one pick-up line, we allow older siblings to join their younger sibling in the elementary line.

Picking Up Children Inside the Building

We respectfully ask parents to follow the pick-up procedures outlined above. Please do not pick up your child inside the building or outside of their classroom. Teachers teach until the last possible minute and we need to keep our hallways clear and quiet.
