Third Grade Curriculum

ELEMENTARY CURRICULUM OVERVIEW

Our elementary courses are the framework on which we build a strong academic program. Our foundation is Christ-centered and biblically-based. The academic program at OCS exists for the purpose of affecting lives for the Kingdom of God. Our passion is to be found faithful in all aspects of education.

Third Grade

Third grade students become more confident in reading and comprehension. They explore many different genres and short stories. They also read several novels. Focus is put on comprehension, cause and effect, predicting, drawing conclusions, and sequencing through their reading. Creative writing directly ties in with the reading curriculum. Teachers use hands-on methods to teach an understanding of number sense. Students master addition and subtraction to the ten thousands’ place. In addition, they learn to multiply, divide, and solve basic algebra problems. Students continue to develop an understanding of grammar rules and apply them in their writing. World geography is taught through exploration of the seven continents, using numerous forms of research and hands-on activities. All subjects are filtered through a Christian worldview. Students also participate in enrichment classes such as art, vocal music, technology and physical education.
