ELEMENTARY CURRICULUM OVERVIEW
Our elementary courses are the framework on which we build a strong academic program. Our foundation is Christ-centered and biblically-based. The academic program at OCS exists for the purpose of affecting lives for the Kingdom of God. Our passion is to be found faithful in all aspects of education.
First Grade
First grade is rich with learning in the core academic areas of reading and math. Science and social studies are presented with a very real and hands-on approach. An emphasis on phonics as well as other reading components are foundational in preparing students to become fluent readers for years to come. Penmanship and spelling are taught as well. While biblical integration is woven throughout, deliberate Bible instruction takes place daily. Opportunities to teach important character qualities abound inside and outside of the classroom, providing students with relational skills that will enrich their lives and those they are with for a lifetime. Students enjoy additional instruction in art, vocal music, technology, and physical education throughout the week.
