OCS Co-curricular Activities
OCS encourages all our students to become involved in
an co-curricular acitivity. There are a variety of activities for the students to choose.
ACADEMIC TEAM
OCS has two high school academic teams for each school year. A varsity squad made up of 10th - 12th grade
students and a junior varsity squad of 9th grade students. The varsity team competes in the OSSAA Academic Bowl while the JV competes
in the Oklahoma Junior Academic Bowl Association (OJABA).
Both teams play a game format that features 4 on 4 competitions. A team of 4 students will compete against a team of 4 students from
different schools. There are two toss-up rounds of questions that are answered by individual team members. These rounds utilize a lock-out
buzzer system. In addition, two speed rounds are played in which each team picks a topic and answers ten questions within sixty seconds.
Toss-up and speed round subjects include literature; history; science and math; social sciences; fine arts; geography; religion, mythology, and philosophy; and general knowledge
Contact Mr.Hawkins at mhawkins@ocssaints.org for more information about the academic team.

BAND
The Band Program is under the Direction of Mr. Michael Brown.
It begins in 6th grade with students coming to class everyday. Seventh and Eighth are combined into one group and the High School Band is composed of 9th-12th.
The High School Bands regularly advance to the State Level Competition and often challenge for some of the highest ratings in our class.
The Bands consistently earn the highest rating possible for Sight-reading at State and traditionally receive the Distinguished Academic Achievement award for their high grade-point average.
In addition to the Concert Band, the Jazz program has blossomed in recent years and last year earned First Runner-Up at the State Jazz Competition.
The HS Jazz Band attends festivals in Oklahoma and neighboring states and often is asked to perform for school and community events.
The HS Jazz Band is only open to students enrolled in the Concert Band and rehearses before school. The Middle School Jazz Band meets after school and offers students an introduction into Jazz.
The bands also provide musical entertainment at football and basketball games with various pep bands.
The High School Band takes a yearly trip to a neighboring state and once every four years, attends a Festival in Washington DC.
In addition to traveling, the Band program has professionally recording a CD and in 2007 had a song commissioned for them and gave the world premiere at the Spring Concert.
If you have any questions about our band program, please feel free to email Michael Brown at mbrown@ocssaints.org

DRAMA-MAIN STAGE PERFORMANCES
OCS drama is under the direction of Tiffanie Cain. This year the department is doing three shows.
Any high school student may audition to be in any of the shows, or could interview to be a member of the crew.
The first show this school year was Property Rites. For this show they performed four times, twice at OCS and once at regional one act competition,
and once at state one act competition. The show won the tech and stagecraft award, 2nd place overall, and 3 all regional actors at the regional competition
as well as 2nd place overall, and 3 all state actors at the state competition. The second show of the season was a musical classic Guys and Dolls.
It had a cast of 19 students and was performed 3 times here at OCS. And finally drama will be performing a children’s show
which will be a twist on the classic of Robin Hood. These performances are April 25 and 26.
If you are interested in Drama contact Mrs. Cain at tcain@ocssaints.org.
DRAMA-COMPETITIVE ACTING
Competitive acting is a new class added to the OCS world of Drama. These students will prepare monologues,
dramatic duets, and humorous duets to name a few. What they prepare complies with the OSSAA rules for speech
competition and is then taken to qualifying tournaments. If a student qualifies they then move onto regional
competition and from there they may even go onto state. Regionals will be mid March and state will be mid April.
So far eleven events are qualified to go to regionals.

HONOR SOCIETY
High standards in Scholarship, Service, Character, and Leadership are the components necessary for membership in the Oklahoma Christian School chapter of National Honor Society.
Through NHS chapter service activities, members maintain and extend the qualities that won them selection. Membership is both an honor and
a commitment to serve.
OCS students are committed to serving others. Since our formation over 6 years ago, service projects have included a canned food drive for OKC Food Bank, baking cookies for distribution at Breakfast
on Broadway (community breakfast/lunch program), sponsoring “movie night” to raise money during HEROES week and contributing to the needs of a missionary family serving in Ethiopia.
