Philosophy
Nature of truth
The Gospel of Christ is the foundation of ultimate Truth. Because all truth is God’s Truth, it is through the lens of Christ that all learning is rightly ordered to reveal meaning and purpose.
Biblical integration is the process of illuminating Christ in all aspects of learning within a living purpose.
Nature of the learner
Every person is created in the image of God. Thus, each student has infinite potential, dignity, and purpose in Christ.
Every person has fallen short of the glory of God as well as the glory of his or her own potential. Thus, each student must embrace the redemptive work of Christ when seeking to fulfill God’s purpose.
The student bears a personal responsibility to his or her own learning. This posture of learning incorporates motivation, self-discipline, creativity, and perseverance.
A learner benefits when his or her community of church, home, and school work together in harmony.
Nature of the Teaching/Learning Process
The teacher’s directive at OCS is student learning. This is accomplished by implementing the appropriate methodology, pedagogy, and assessment. The teacher guides the learning process by being professional, relational, and Christ-centered.
Academic rigor, undergirded by high expectations, sustained effort, and self-discipline are essential components of the learning process.
OCS embraces its role of scholasticism and academic discipline in the life of the student while partnering with the family and church to help each student pursue his or her God-given purpose.
Education is partnership between the school and families in mutual support of each individual learner’s embrace of his or her God-given call.
