Lloyd and Karla McAlister - 17 years at OCS

We have been blessed by the knowledge that the teachers were praying for our children and truly had a heart for ministry to the students and their families. Initially, we came to OCS for the curriculum but we stayed because we loved the small size of the classes, the spiritual emphasis in the classes, the teaching of God’s Word, and the accountability of going to a small school where everyone knows your name.

It has been our pleasure to be associated with Oklahoma Christian School for 17 years. Our oldest son, Grant, began second grade in 1992 and our daughter, Kalyn, began kindergarten that same year. Our youngest son, Logan, graduated from OCS May, 2007, following his siblings who graduated in 2002 and 2004. From our first day on campus we have been blessed by the caring teachers and staff of this school.

As our children grew older, we came to appreciate the administration’s commitment to providing many different extracurricular activities in which the students could develop outside the classroom. All three of our children were very involved in the band program and we were involved as volunteers. It was wonderful to watch the students work together to make beautiful music and, in the process, learn discipline, self control, sharing, commitment, and dedication. Each band member felt they were part of a family that cared about them. We have had similar wonderful experiences being involved with the football program, drama, and many other extracurricular opportunities. The relationships we built with students, parents, teachers, and the administration, through our involvement in student activities at OCS, has been a huge blessing to us. We feel like they are family and, of course, they are … for eternity.

We believe our children were well prepared; acquiring both learning skills and knowledge they need to compete in the world. They all felt prepared for the academic challenges of college. In addition to knowledge, they were exposed to wisdom. Time will tell as to the fruit born of the education and spiritual influence our children experienced at OCS. We are confident scripture is true: train up a child in the way he or she should go and when they are old they will not depart from it. One prayer we have always prayed for our children is Paul’s prayer in Ephesians 1:16 -18

I pray for you constantly, asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ to give you wisdom to see clearly and really understand who Christ is and all that he has done for you. I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can see something of the future he has called you to share. Living Bible Version

Our years at OCS were wonderful. We do not pretend to present OCS as perfect but we have never regretted our decision to make sacrifices in order for our children to attend Christian school. The people, the mission, and the focus of the school were and are great blessings to our family.
