Yesterday, Mr. Darren Moore, representing West Point, had a dynamic speech ready for an attentive audience of juniors and seniors. He gave great information that is applicable for ANY college admissions process, as well as what is specific to West Point. Your students will get a wealth of information and knowledge from hearing what all these various colleges and universities have to say to us.
I also wanted to pass along some other news that is very good for OCS students and indicates how well they are being prepared. Mr. Moore told us yesterday that there are only 8 schools in the state that the service academies will consider, and OCS is on that radar. We have also received word from the University of Alabama that they want to send someone to talk with our students, and OCS is being included in the Ivy League invitations as noted below. This is good stuff!! Even if your student believes he/she is "dead-set" on an Oklahoma University, I would encourage you to encourage him/her to come and hear what other opportunities there are and where else they might find to be a good fit.
PARENT INFORMATION MEETINGS
These meetings are important because you will hear academic information that is grade-level distinctive and about special events for each grade level from the class sponsors. If it is at all possible, you should make plans to attend.
Junior/Senior Parent Night
Monday, Sept. 13th, 6:30 in the HS Auditorium.
Freshman/Sophomore Parent Night
Monday, Sept. 20, 6:30 in the HS Auditorium.
COLLEGE VISITS
This is a listing to date of all college reps coming to OCS in Sept. and Oct., including a few at Oklahoma School of Science and Math, and area college fairs. College reps who come to OCS will come at 2:00 in conjunction with the College Prep classes. Since seniors do not have a class at that time, it is a golden opportunity for them to hear from all the different colleges and universities who will be here.
The auditorium has plenty of room, so if parents would like to attend any of these meetings, you are certainly welcome to do so. This list will have additions from time to time, so watch this site for further information. (black font represents an update in the schedule)

COLLEGE FAIRS
Most of the area college fairs have now consolidated into two large fairs. These events are excellent opportunities to walk around in a casual setting to meet college representatives and to gather information. In fact, if you go and have several colleges in mind, you might want to take an empty box!
Metro College Night Sunday, Sept. 19, 2:00 - 5:00 Oklahoma Science Museum.
Monday, Sept. 20, 6:00 - 7:00 Embassy Suites Hotel in Norman. These two fairs will be attended by the same colleges, just different times and places.
National Christian College Fair

OCS VISITS TO COLLEGE CAMPUSES
This year, in conjunction with our ACT/College Prep class, Mr. McBride has organized trips for our students to visit 5 campuses. These visits will be limited to Juniors and Seniors and we will depend heavily on parent transportation. Mr. McBride will be publicizing more information as the dates get closer. For now, be thinking about these opportunities and if they might be places you and your students would like to explore.

Lastly, there is a trip scheduled for any student, 9-12, to Oral Roberts University on Sept. 24, a Friday. The program starts at 9:30 and will be over around 2:00 with lunch provided for parents, students, and sponsors. The itinerary includes a welcome by Dr. Mark Rutledge, campus tour, lunch, admissions discussion, and FAQ's with Deans and Instructors. If you and/or your student would like to sign up for this trip, you must notify Mrs. Jones by Wednesday, Sept. 15.
